High-Density Fiber & Structured Cabling Upgrade at DCA
Netcom Technologies was awarded the MWAA Network Modernization 4 Project at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA)—a critical initiative supporting MWAA’s ongoing technology infrastructure upgrades. This project, valued at $885,000, was successfully completed in 2024 and strengthened the airport’s backbone and horizontal network capabilities across key operational spaces.
Project Scope & Highlights
Netcom delivered a full suite of telecom infrastructure services, including:
Installation of 19 full-size data cabinets to expand MWAA’s network capacity.
Deployment of numerous ISP and OSP fiber pathways, including Maxcell Innerduct ranging from 12 to 48 strands of single-mode fiber.
All fibers were fusion spliced with LC connectors, totaling:
• 528 fiber strands • 29,000 feet of fiber installedInstallation of 1″ EMT conduit to support Category 6 copper cabling.
Installation of:
• 300 Category 6 cables
• Forty-eight 48-port patch panels
• Vertical and horizontal cable management systems
Impact on MWAA Operations
This modernization effort boosts the resiliency, bandwidth, and reliability of the airport’s technology infrastructure—supporting airline operations, TSA systems, airport communications, and passenger information systems.
