MWAA Airfield Lighting Project at Dulles
Fiber Backbone Extension Supporting Airfield Safety Systems
Netcom Technologies was selected to deliver structured cabling support for the MWAA Airfield Lighting Project at Dulles International Airport, a major initiative designed to enhance airfield visibility, communication, and operational safety. This project was valued at $485,000.
Project Components
Netcom’s scope included installing:
A 12-strand single-mode fiber backbone from Airport Traffic Control Tower (ATCT) to four lighting vaults.
Additional pathways to support one exterior building, enabling future expansion of lighting and control systems.
All fiber strands were fusion spliced with LC connectors, totaling:
• 120 single-mode fiber strands
• 64,000 feet of fiber across airfield environments
Mission-Critical Impact
This fiber infrastructure supports the airfield lighting control systems that guide aircraft movement during low-visibility conditions, nighttime operations, and inclement weather. Precision installation and reliability are essential in these environments—making Netcom’s role vital to MWAA’s airfield operations.
The successful completion of this project underscores Netcom’s expertise in airfield, transportation, and high-security cabling deployments.
